Why The Transfer Atlas
Exists
The Transfer Atlas was created to make transfer pathways visible. Every year, millions of students begin their academic journey at community colleges, yet the path to four-year universities often remains unclear.
"To make transfer knowledge visible, accessible, and human by helping students navigate pathways to four-year institutions through real stories, curated resources, and actionable information."

Built from
lived experience.
Warda Ali is a community college transfer student who moved from American River College to Stanford University, where she earned her B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Medical Humanities.
Her academic work focuses on mental health equity, cultural context in care, and expanding access to knowledge that helps people navigate complex systems. As a former community college student, she experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to understand transfer pathways when information is fragmented or hidden.
Transfer Atlas grew from that experience. Through her work in student advocacy, research, and national transfer conversations, Warda became committed to making transfer knowledge more visible and accessible for the students coming next.
"When transfer knowledge is hidden, students rely on chance. When pathways are visible, students can plan."
Transfer Atlas helps close information gaps by bringing together real student experiences, practical guidance, and institutional context in one place. The goal is simple: help students move from uncertainty to informed action.
The principles that guide us.
Access
Transfer knowledge should be available to every student, not just those with insider connections.
Clarity
Complex systems become navigable when information is clear, organized, and human.
Belonging
Every student deserves to see themselves in the journeys of others.
Self-Navigation
Students are capable of charting their own path when given the right tools.
Transparency
Honest, complete information empowers better decisions.
Community Knowledge
The collective wisdom of transfer alumni is one of the most valuable resources we have.
